13 Charged Over Damage After Penn State's Upset Win
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP/CBS) — Thirteen people have now been charged over widespread damage following Penn State's upset victory over No. 2 Ohio State on Saturday night.
Most of those charged are current or former Penn State students. State College Police Chief John Gardner says he expects more people will be charged.
Fans pulled down five streetlights, damaged streetlight globes and took about 20 streets signs and stop signs. Several small fires were also set, and at least one vehicle was damaged.
Police say 5,000 to 10,000 mostly college-aged fans gathered in downtown State College after the 24-21 victory.
Gardner says the damage estimate increased from $18,000 to about $30,000.
One fan has started a GoFundMe page to help pay for the damage. As of Wednesday afternoon, $1,360 has been raised.
