10 Things About The Flyers' 10-Game Winning Streak

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It hasn't happened in 31 years.

The Philadelphia Flyers have won 10 straight games for the first time since 1985, after holding off the Avalanche on Wednesday night for a 4-3 victory.

Here are ten things about their remarkable streak.

10. Going Streaking

The Flyers haven't lost a game since November 25th, a 3-2 loss to the Rangers. They've won six straight at home and four straight on the road. The Eagles have lost three games since November 25th and the Sixers have lost eight.

The Flyers have climbed to third place in the difficult Metropolitan division with 41 points (19-10-3). Unfortunately, the Penguins and Blue Jackets have won seven in a row.

The Flyers' 10-game winning streak is the longest in pro sports.

9. Scoring

The Flyers have scored 36 goals during the 10-game winning streak (3.6/game). They have 105 goals scored in 32 games, third most in the NHL behind division foes New York and Pittsburgh.

8. The Big Three

The Flyers' offense has been lead by their big three all season long: Claude Giroux, Jake Voracek, and Wayne Simmonds. All three are top 10 in the NHL in scoring as Voracek 33 points (t-3rd), G has 30 points (t-8th), and Simmonds has 29 (10th).

Simmonds has five goals in eight December games and his 16 for the season is 4th in the NHL.

7. Game-Winner Schenner

Brayden Schenn has scored the game-winning goal for the Flyers in three straight games. On Saturday against the Stars at home, Schenn recorded a hat trick. Against the Red Wings in the next game, he scored the overtime winner. And on Wednesday night in Colorado, Schenn scored the fourth goal, which ended up being the game-winning.

Schenn has six goals over his last seven games and five goals in his last three!

6. Hello Stolarz

With Michal Neuvirth out with an injury, 22-year-old rookie goalie Anthony Stolarz has been thrusted into the Flyers' backup goalie role. With Steve Mason playing so well of late, Stolarz has been forced to play just two games during the streak. And he won them both.

Stolarz allowed three goals on 32 shots in a 5-3 win over the Flames and then shutout the Red Wings in Detroit.

5. Stone Wall Steve Mason

Steve Mason is on fire. Mason has won his last eight starts, allowing more than two goals just twice over that eight game span. Mason helped the Flyers win a nine-round shootout against the Bruins back on November 29th.

4. Provorov Finding His Way

Flyers rookie defenseman Ivan Provorov has found his groove. The 19-year-old 2015 seventh overall pick is a plus-7 during the winning streak. He has not had one minus game during the streak. He's also scoring. Provorov has five points in his last seven games and his 14 points is second most in the NHL among rookie defenseman.

3. Travis Konecny Continues To Impress

Konecny has been pretty consistent all season long. The 19-year-old rookie forward has four goals and 12 assists in his first 32 NHL games. He's 7th in the NHL in rookie scoring and has three points in December.

2. Here Comes Ghost

With all the attention on the 19-year-olds, Shayne Gostisbehere is quietly putting together a very nice month of December. Ghost has tallied a point in five of his last seven games played, despite battling a hand injury.

1. Power Play Magic

The Flyers have been dominant on the Power Play. They have scored 28 PP goals in 32 games, which is best in the NHL. They are scoring on 23.5-percent of their power plays, which is second best in the NHL. Simmonds leads the NHL with eight power plays goals, Schenn is second on the team with six, and Giroux and Voracek are each tied for 2nd in the NHL with 11 power play assists.
