UPDATE: Authorities ID Suspect Shot, Killed in Atlantic City Following Police Pursuit
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A police pursuit resulted with a suspect fatally shot after an exchange of gunfire with police in Atlantic City, according to investigators.
The suspect has been identified as 27-year-old Antoquan T. Watson, of Williamstown, said Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain. Watson was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:20 p.m. Thursday.
Investigators say the incident began around 12:30 p.m. with two 911 calls reporting a man with a gun at the La Escondida II Restaurant in the 700 block of Black Horse Pike in Pleasantville.
According to investigators, the man fled Pleasantville Police in a vehicle east on Route 322 through Egg Harbor Township's West Atlantic City section, on to Albany Avenue. The vehicle turned south on West End Avenue into Ventnor, returned back to Albany Avenue via West End Avenue, turned east on Albany Avenue, and north on Atlantic Avenue.
The pursuit ended at Missouri and Atlantic Avenues in Atlantic City, at the foot of the AC Expressway, near Tanger Outlets The Walk outdoor shops.
Investigators say gunfire was exchanged between the suspect and police, and the suspect was killed.
Shoppers in the area call the incident "scary."
Irene Inferrera says, "We were just in Sketchers and the guy working said he just came on duty and he heard a lot of shots and he just ran."
Police units from Pleasantville, Egg Harbor Township, and Atlantic City had been involved in the pursuit, according to investigators.
It's unclear which police department the officers who shot the suspect are from.
No police officers were injured during the incident.
An autopsy is scheduled by the New Jersey State Medical Examiner's Office Friday morning.
The police-involved shooting remains under investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
