Jill Biden joins Standup to Cancer tribute at World Series

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — First lady Jill Biden joined the Standup to Cancer tribute in the middle of the fifth inning of Game 4 of the World Series on Wednesday night.

Biden arrived at Citizens Bank Park shortly before the tribute, which occurred just after the Astros scored five runs in the top of the inning to take a 5-0 lead.

Attendees held up signs with the names of people they want to pay tribute to. Biden's were for son Beau, who died of a brain tumor in 2015; her sister's father-in-law; and Corey Phelan, a Phillies minor league pitcher who died last month.

Houston's Trey Mancini, who missed the 2020 season while undergoing treatment for colon cancer, planned to hold up a card honoring Ryan Minor, his Low-A manager in the minors at Delmarva. Mancini said Minor had recently been disagnosed with colon cancer,

Cedric Mullins and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. held up cards for Mancini at the 2021 All-Star Game in Denver.

"I competed in the home run derby the day before, so I was on the flight back and saw that," Mancini said. "I was overcome with a wave of emotion when I saw that. Cedric, obviously we're really close and good friends and teammates, and for Vlad to do it as well, somebody that I've been playing against for a few years and had a very high respect for, I just thought it was an incredible gesture and it really meant a lot to me. It was a really cool thing to see."

Astros manager Dusty Baker had surgery for prostate cancer in 2001.

"Mine wasn't as serious as his," Baker said. "I followed it from afar when he was in Baltimore. And a lot of guys that have had cancer, especially prostate cancer, called me for advice or asked me what I did for mine."

Owner of Angelo's Pizzeria clarifies not cooking for Astros

The Phillies and the Astros are battling for the World Series title. But the matchup has also sparked a food fight from Philadelphia all the way to Houston.

You've probably seen the story going around on social media that Angelo's Pizzeria in South Philly refused to provide a post-game meal for the Astros.

Angelo's Pizzeria owner explains why he refused to feed Astros

Ever since the video went viral, the owner says he's been inundated with calls from angry Astros fans.

But he told CBS3's Pat Gallen the only reason he turned the Astros down is that the restaurant closes at 7 p.m. -- long before the game's end.

The owner says the restaurant frequently cooks for visiting teams -- including the Pittsburgh Steelers when they played the Eagles last weekend.

Could Phillies wear powder blue jersey for Game 5?

Win or lose in Game 4, Wednesday's Game 5 of the World Series will be the final home game of the season for the Philadelphia Phillies, and it could have a real Throwback Thursday feel. A lot of fans want to see the Phils break out their classic powder blue uniforms for Game 5.

Bryce Harper was sporting the retro look when he arrived for Game 1 in Houston last week.

The Phillies typically wear the powder blue jersey on Thursday home games, which we'll have for Game 5.

We'll have to wait and see what the team decides to wear.

2008 World Champions Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins to throw first pitch

Who's ready for more mayhem at Citizens Bank Park?

There were a number of former Phillies inside the ballpark for Game 3 of the World Series Tuesday night, but who will throw the ceremonial first pitch for Game 4?

Two beloved Phillies legends.

Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins - members of the Phillies 2008 World Championship team - will take the field Wednesday night and throw the ceremonial first pitch.

Before Utley and Rollins, Luke Theodosiades, a 19-year-old Phillies fan from Ridley Township, will throw the first pitch as a special invited guest of the MLB and Stand Up To Cancer.

Luke is a survivor of pediatric cancer who was diagnosed at 11. CBS3's Stephanie Stahl caught up with him Tuesday.

Game 4 weather shaping up to be fantastic night at ballpark

Our beloved home team may have won 7-0 yesterday, but tonight's weather is shaping up to be a perfect 10!

After a questionable start to the week, with a postponement due to rain, Game 4's weather will be fantastic, with clear skies and light winds, despite slightly chillier temperatures.

NEXT Weather: Great weather for the Phans

High pressure is moving in from the Ohio Valley and into the Northeast. This takes control of our forecast, ensuring calm, beautiful and rain-free weather—not just for today, but for the remainder of the week.

Here's your Game 4 forecast:

  • First pitch: 59° with clear skies
  • 7th Inning:  57° with clear skies
  • Final Out: 55° with clear skies

If you plan on celebrating into the night, expect temperatures to drop into the lower 50s and upper 40s during the overnight hours. Definitely consider bringing a light jacket or sweater with you!

If there is a return to Houston, travel weather will cooperate, with clear to partly cloudy skies here, and temperatures in the 70s as we head into the weekend.

The weekend forecast for Houston, by the way, calls for similar temperatures -- Philly may even be warmer than Houston on Saturday -- with just a few scattered storms possible Saturday afternoon.

Nola's second turn in the WS comes with a chance to put Philadelphia up 3-1 in the best-of-seven series.

Houston will send out righty Cristian Javier.
