Wheeler's night goes south in Phillies' Game 2 loss to Astros
HOUSTON -- All Zack Wheeler could do was watch the ball fly over the wall in left-center field at Minute Maid Park as Astros fans roared in excitement.
It was Houston's night – not Wheeler's.
And the home run hit by Astros third baseman Alex Bregman midway through the game signaled his night was about to end.
In a game where the Phillies could've stolen two games in Houston, Wheeler put together his worst performance of the postseason in a 5-2 loss to the Astros in Game 2 of the World Series on Saturday night.
Wheeler allowed six hits, including that 405-foot blast by Bregman, and five runs in five innings, and only recorded three strikeouts in the loss.

Phils get on board
HOUSTON -- It took a while, but the Phillies are finally on the board.
Jean Segura hit a sac-fly to left field that knocked in Nick Castellanos.
Houston leads the Phillies, 5-1, as we enter the bottom of the seventh.
Phillies miss opportunity to score
HOUSTON -- The Phillies haven't had many chances to score on Saturday night, but there was a golden opportunity for them to hack at Houston's lead in the top of the sixth inning.
Kyle Schwarber walked and Rhys Hoskins singled, but they were left on base.
J.T. Realmuto struck out and Bryce Harper grounded into a double play to end the inning.
Framber Valdez has been great tonight.
World Series notebook: Phillies 3B Bohm past fear of failure
HOUSTON (AP) — Alec Bohm got over the fear of failure long before getting to the World Series with the Philadelphia Phillies. The young third baseman has come a long way since one miserable night in the field early this season.
"All that stuff kind of went out the window after that happened," Bohm said Saturday before Game 2 against Houston.
That was back in the fourth game of the season, when Bohm made a throwing error in each of the first three innings of a home game, and there was still uncertainty if the job was his. There was also the postgame apology to fans after cameras caught him deriding Philadelphia with an expletive.
The 26-year-old Bohm is now the youngest starting third baseman in a postseason for the Phillies since Willie "Puddin' Head" Jones in the 1950 World Series. He had a two-run double and five flawless fielding chances during Philadelphia's 10-inning victory in Game 1.
Bregman's bomb extends Astros lead
HOUSTON -- Alex Bregman hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the Astros a 5-0 lead.
It's the first homer Zack Wheeler has given up tonight and only his second of the postseason.
Not the best night for the Phillies' co-ace.
Bohm makes big play
HOUSTON -- Alec Bohm's defensive improvement at third base has been nothing short of remarkable this season.
After making a couple of big plays in Game 1, Bohm caught a line drive from Martín Maldonado to end the inning.
Zack Wheeler will thank him for that.
Valdez is dealing
HOUSTON -- Framber Valdez has recorded seven strikeouts through four innings. He's been dealing against the Phillies.
His latest two strikeouts happened in the top of the fourth against Bryce Harper and Alec Bohm.
Astros lead, 3-0.
Astros caught breaking the rules ... again?
Astros catcher Martín Maldonado, according to the FOX broadcast, was caught using an illegal bat in Game 1 of the World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies. Maldonado used a bat Albert Pujols sent him that Major League Baseball does not deem legal.
Pujols was grandfathered into the bat since he had been using the bat before the 2010 rule change.
Maldonado went back to his usual bat in Game 2.
Phillies get first hit
HOUSTON -- Kyle Schwarber hit a single to deep left field in the top of the third inning, but that was the only damage the Phillies did.
Edmundo Sosa and Rhys Hoskins struck out and J.T. Realmuto grounded out to end the inning.
Framber Valdez has had the edge over the Philies through three innings.
Wheeler rebounds after poor first inning
HOUSTON -- After a poor first inning, Zack Wheeler got out of the bottom of the second inning with only allowing one runner to get on base.
Wheeler walked Chas McCormick to start the inning, but he then got three straight outs. Wheeler got Martin Maldonado to strikeout, Jose Altuve to pop-out and Jeremy Pena to line out to Edmundo Sosa.
Astros' offense off to hot start
HOUSTON -- The Astros' offense got off to a hot start in Game 2 of the World Series. In four pitches from Zack Wheeler, all of the sudden the Astros had the lead.
Jose Altuve led off the game with a double, and Jeremy Pena and Yordan Alvarez both followed up the second baseman with doubles of their own.
The inning should've ended on a ground ball from Yuri Gurriel, but Edmundo Sosa's throw to Rhys Hoskins was a tad short and the first baseman wasn't able to scoop the ball, which allowed Gurriel to be ruled safe.
Alvarez scored on that play to give Houston a 3-0 lead.
Brutal start for the Phillies.
Phillies make Valdez work in first inning
HOUSTON -- The Phillies didn't score any runs in the first inning, but they made Framber Valdez work. The lefty threw 22 pitches in his first trip to the mound.
Rhys Hoskins drew a walk, but he was the only player to get on base in the top of the first. Bryce Harper flew out to left field.
J.T. Realmuto, Game 1's hero, struck out swinging and Kyle Schwarber grounded out to second base.
Young viral Phillies fan flies home for football game
HOUSTON -- Game 1 of the World Series between the Phillies and Houston Astros ended in dramatic fashion Friday night. J.T. Realmuto hit a go-ahead home run in the top of the 10th inning and Nick Castellanos made a game-saving catch in the bottom of the ninth as Philadelphia came back to beat Houston, 6-5, to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
After Realmuto's homer, Phillies fans let Astros fans hear all about it, including Carson Wallace, a young fan that went viral after the TV broadcast aired a clip of what appeared to be him talking smack to a Houston fan.
