Eagles beat 49ers in the NFC title game to advance to Super Bowl

For the first time in five years, the Eagles are heading back to the Super Bowl.

The Eagles topped the San Francisco 49ers, 31-7, on Sunday in the NFC championship to advance to the big game.

Philadelphia's running backs had a big game against one of the league's best rushing defense.

Miles Sanders scored two touchdowns and had 42 rushing yards on 11 carries. Boston Scott added a score and Kenneth Gainwell had 13 rushes for 42 yards.

Jalen Hurts didn't do too much through the air, but he found success on the ground in the second half. His quarterback sneak in the third quarter gave the Eagles a 28-7 lead. He had 11 carries for 39 yards.

Hurts completed 15 of his 25 passes for 121 yards.

DeVonta Smith led the Eagles in receiving with two catches for 36 yards, including a massive one-handed catch that led to the Eagles scoring on the opening drive.

The Eagles' defense, particularly Hasson Reddick, shut down the 49ers' offense.

Reddick had three total tackles, including two sacks and a tackle-for-loss, a forced fumble and fumble recovery.

The 49ers were hit with more bad injury luck on the first drive when rookie Brock Purdy left the game with an elbow injury.

Later in the game, backup Josh Johnson left the game and was being evaluated with a concussion, which forced Purdy to re-enter the contest.

The 49ers' lone touchdown came on a rushing touchdown by Christian McCaffrey.

The 49ers have been plagued by injuries at quarterback all season, and it didn't stop in the NFC title game.

49ers rookie quarterback Brock Purdy suffered an elbow injury on their first drive of the game and didn't return. He was replaced by backup Josh Johnson.

Even though the Niners had Johnson in, they were able to find the end zone thanks to a bulldozing run by Christian McCaffrey.

McCaffrey scored on a 23-yard run to tie the game, 7-7, midway through the second quarter.

Haason Reddick, who led the same in sacks this season, has been playing like a man possessed. So far, he has three total tackles, including two sacks and a tackle-for-loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

49ers QB Purdy suffers elbow injury in NFC championship game

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy was questionable to return to the NFC championship game on Sunday after he took a hard hit to his right elbow in the first quarter.

Purdy was drilled in the arm by Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Haason Reddick on a play that was ruled a fumble. The Eagles recovered and Purdy was examined on the sideline.

Purdy was replaced by backup Josh Johnson. Johnson, who signed with the 49ers in December, threw two passes this season.

Purdy made an improbable rise this season, going from the last player picked in the NFL draft to opening the season as San Francisco's third-string QB. But injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo pressed Purdy into service.

Purdy was the third rookie quarterback ever to win two NFL playoff starts, the fifth to reach the conference title game as a starter and was trying to become the first to reach the Super Bowl.

The drive went 10 plays on 60 yards in just over five minutes.

But, the biggest play of drive happened during DeVonta's Smith catch on fouth down. Smith made a one-handed catch on fourth-and-three for 29 yards to extend the drive.

Everyone and their mother is in South Philly for the NFC title game.

Comedian Kevin Hart and former Sixers owner and current  CEO of Fanatics Michael Rubin are in attendance.

Former Eagles Super Bowl champs Jay Ajayi and Corey Clement, and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell are at the game as well.

It should be a good one at the Linc.
