YONKERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- An elementary school in Yonkers was scrubbed down Monday morning, after a student there was diagnosed with Enterovirus D68.
Cedar Place Elementary School in Yonkers was cleaned early Monday before students arrived, as was the school bus the student rode on, the Yonkers Mayor's office told CBS 2.
The child was back home on Monday night, recovering and in good condition, the Mayor's office said.
The school will not be closed.
The superintendent and principal met with parents Monday, WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported.
"They discussed the illness," the school district's Jerilynne Fierstein said. "They discussed the fact that they have to remind their children that they need to wash their hands."
Symptoms of Enterovirus D68 include cough, runny nose, sneezing and more. They are generally considered to be similar to flu.
Numerous Tri-State Area children have been infected, and 4-year-old Eli Waller of Hamilton, New Jersey died of the virus on Sept. 25.
