History On The Horizon As A-Rod Pulls Within 3 Hits Of 3,000
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- History is on the horizon.
Alex Rodriguez is now three hits from 3,000 after going 2-for-2 in the Yankees' 2-1 victory over the Marlins on Wednesday.
The 14-time All-Star now has 2,997 for his career.
But as the polarizing slugger nears yet another milestone, he insists he's remaining calm and just taking it day by day.
"I'm relaxed and I'm having a good time," the 39-year-old said.
Don't think for a second, though, that Rodriguez isn't looking forward to joining the illustrious 3,000-hit club. He fully understands the significance of reaching that magical number.
"It will be pretty awesome," the three-time American League MVP said. "I will be pretty excited about it. I know my mom is excited about it. She's watching every day and counting down. It'll be an exciting day in the Rodriguez house, for sure."
Barring an injury or one of the worst slumps of his career, it's almost guaranteed that Rodriguez will get his 3,000th hit at Yankee Stadium.
After concluding their series with Miami on Thursday night, the Bombers will welcome the Tigers to The Bronx on Friday. The lowly Phillies will then be in town on Monday for a three-game set.
"It's always nice to do it at home, here in New York in front of our fans," Rodriguez said. "Our fans have been great all year."
A-Rod will be the 29th player in major league history to reach the 3,000-hit mark.
