Man Accused In Wyandanch Gas Station Fight To Be Arraigned

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island man who allegedly caused a New Year's Day inferno during an altercation at a gas station is expected to face a judge.

Maleek Ward, 18, allegedly intentionally hit a man with his car and then struck a fuel pump, causing an inferno at a BP gas station in Wyandanch on Jan. 1, police said.

The victim was treated and released from the hospital.

Ward fled the scene and was arrested the following day, police said.

It is not known what triggered the altercation.

Ward is scheduled to be arraigned on assault and weapons charges at First District Court in Central Islip, WCBS 880's Mike Xirinachs reported. He had a defaced handgun on him at the time of his arrest, authorities said.
