Woman Struck, Killed By SUV While Walking To Work In Brooklyn
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A pedestrian who was on her way to work at a Duane Reade was struck and killed by a vehicle Sunday morning in Brooklyn.
The woman, who was in her 60s, was walking on Ralph Avenue and East 65 Street in the Flatlands neighborhood when she was hit by a Nissan Pathfinder and dragged about 200 feet, 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck reported.
The crash occurred just feet away from the Duane Reade where the woman worked. Her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren were at the drug store when the accident happened, Schuck reported.
The driver remained at the scene. The vehicle sustained extensive front-end damage.
Dozens gathered in the store's parking lot to mourn the woman's death.
"It's just very shocking to come here and see this, especially here," a woman who knew the victim for years told Schuck. "And she was such a sweetie. She was like a staple in the community. You come here and you see her little face, and it's nice to come to this Duane Reade. I'm just so sorry to her and her family."
"My heart goes out to the whole family," one man said. "For the most part, trying to make ends meet, doing the right thing for her family."
