Suffolk Police: Woman Left Racist Voicemail On Church Phone In Amityville

AMITYVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island woman is accused of leaving racist and alarming messages at a church in Amityville.

Suffolk County police said the pastor of New Hope Institutional Baptist Church on Harrison Avenue called police to report a racist message left on a church phone on July 1.

Following an investigation by the Hate Crimes Unit, Elisa Pellino was arrested by detectives at her home in Farmingdale Thursday.

The 66-year-old is charged with second-degree aggravated harassment as a hate crime, police said.

Pellino was expected to be held overnight and is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in First District Court in Central Islip.
