Woman Found Stabbed To Death On Huntington Station Street
HUNTINGTON STATION, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police on Long Island are investigating after a teenager was found stabbed to death on the street.
Maggie Rosales, 18, was discovered facedown in Huntington Station at about 11:25 p.m. Sunday, Suffolk County police said.
The woman was found on Lynch Street near Depot Road by a pedestrian who called 911, police said.
While the discovery of a dead body would be shocking in most neighborhoods, residents in that section of Huntington Station said they were not stunned by the news.
"It's not surprising anymore," one man told WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs. "It's not. It's every other week, every other month, there's a shooting, there's major crime."
In addition to the violence, there is a growing problem of drugs, prostitution and gang violence in the community, neighbors said.
"It's pretty much business as usual here," one woman said of the fatal stabbing. "Every week, you'll see there's something else going on, either a killing, a shooting, a stabbing, something. But it's pretty much standard procedure."
The woman, who also did not want to give her name, said officials and authorities have abandoned the neighborhood.
