Vehicle Crashes Into New Rochelle Store, 1 Injured, Cops Say
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- An 88-year-old woman crashed her car into a New Rochelle store, leaving one person injured, authorities said.
As CBS2's Mark Morgan reported, the woman was pulling into a parking spot in front of the Shoretown Stationary Store, when she apparently accelerated instead of stopping, crashing the vehicle into the store.
Gary Phillips was in the store when the car came crashing in.
"It sounded like an explosion, it was something that I have never heard before. It was just a large crash," Phillips said,
"I didn't see the car. I felt the gentleman that the car knocked into me, and knocked me backwards," Phillips added. "At that point I turned around the gentleman was on the floor."
"I said 'my God.. it could of been me,' because of the timing of everything," Verne Groat, of New Rochelle, said. "And it's just like, I was scared, I was shaking -- there's a guardian angel looking over me today. "
A man who was struck by the incoming vehicle was taken to Montefiore Medical Center with a broken ankle.
Police said the woman accidentally stepped on the gas instead of the brake, causing the car to accelerate. No charges or arrests have been made.
