Woman Attempts Smuggling Half A Pound Of Cocaine In Vagina At JFK

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork)-- A woman at John F. Kennedy Airport was arrested after officials discovered she was attempting to smuggle cocaine through a vaginal insert.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers announced Friday that Shekira Thompson, a U.S. citizen, arrived at the airport from Kingston, Jamaica and agreed to be inspected. When questioned in a private search room, Thompson admitted to vaginally inserting a substance.

Officials say the vaginal insert tested positive for cocaine and about half a pound was seized with an estimated value of $10,000.

Thompson was arrested and turned over to the Port Authority Police Department. She faces charges for state narcotics smuggling.

"This seizure is just another example of our CBP officers being ever vigilant in protecting the United States from the distribution of these illicit drugs," Robert E. Perez, Director of CBP's New York Field Operations, said in the press release.

Officers said they are constantly discovering "interesting" ways of concealing drugs while traveling, and vaginally inserting cocaine just happens to be one of them.
