Wife's Lover Convicted In Husband's Murder In Peekskill

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A 62-year-old New Yorker has been convicted of murder in the love-triangle killing of a suburban cab driver.

The Westchester County district attorney said John Murray, of Newburgh, was found guilty Thursday in the killing of Terrance Camper.

Camper was fatally shot while sitting in his taxi in Peekskill on Oct. 3, 2012.

Murray, who was released from prison in 2011 after serving more than 30 years for a Queens murder in the 1970s, shot Camper twice in the head.

Prosecutors said Murray and Camper's wife, Beatrice Camper, had an affair and plotted to kill Terrance Camper for his life insurance money.

Camper and Murray had been romantically involved for more than a year, police said. Their relationship began while he was in prison.

In the months leading up to the murder, Beatrice Camper took out two insurance policies on her husband, listing herself as the beneficiary, Police Chief Eugene Tumolo said.

"The motives for this crime were obviously driven by greed and selfishness," Tumolo said.

Beatrice Camper pleaded guilty in February to second-degree murder and testified against Murray. She admitted helping Murray find her husband on the day of the shooting. Murray's lawyer blamed her for the killing.

Murray could be sentenced to life in prison.
