Letter Admits Wrong Victim Was Slashed In Whitestone, Queens, Threatens Intended Target
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A note found on a vandalized car this week said an assailant had slashed the wrong teenage girl in Whitestone, Queens last month – and included a threat against the intended target.
As 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria reported, the chilling letter was left in the windshield of a car, saying the wrong teenager was slashed three weeks ago.
The writer of the letter apologized, and promised that the correct teen would soon have her "beautiful face" carved up.
The attack happened around 8:15 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, near the intersection of 147th Street and 13th Avenue. The girl who was slashed was a 16-year-old exchange student from China.
The alleged attacker is seen on the video running up behind the girl, who was walking alone to school. He turned her around and then slashed her across her face and throat with a box cutter, police said.
"She's slashed in her face twice, once from ear to her throat, to the middle of her throat and another part of her face as well," NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said last month. "It's very disturbing."
The suspect, who police said appears to have been wearing a hooded sweatshirt, a surgical mask and surgical gloves, ran away.
Police said the intended target was another 16-year-old who lived in the same house as the victim.
The letter was allegedly written on behalf of the second teen's jealous boyfriend, who is now in jail. The car on which the letter was left had been vandalized.
Two suspects were captured on video this past Monday slashing the tires, gluing the windows shut, and pelting the exterior with eggs, police said.
Sources told 1010 WINS it was not clear whether either suspect involved in the vandalism was also involved in the slashing.
There had been no arrests in the case as of late Wednesday.
