Jury Rejects Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against Officer Who Killed Former Marine In White Plains
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A federal jury found the 2011 police killing of a black man in Westchester County was justified.
On Thursday, a wrongful death lawsuit against Officer Anthony Carelli and the city of White Plains was rejected.
Former Marine Kenneth Chamberlain, 68, died after police broke down his door and Carelli opened fire.
Police were responding to Chamberlain's medical alert system on Nov. 19, 2011 when he wound up dead after a 90-minute confrontation.
Chamberlain suffered from emphysema, osteoarthritis, and had a history of mental health issues.
He grabbed a kitchen knife and threatened to kill anyone coming in.
