Westchester Executive Astorino Unveils $1.76 Billion Budget Plan
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Fresh off his failed run for governor, Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino has pulled the wrapper off his $1.76 billion spending plan for the county.
Astorino said he is open to discussion regarding the budget, but not outside of what he called the markers: a balanced budget, no increase in county taxes, and no borrowing, WCBS 880's Paul Murnane reported.
"It's a budget that, for the fifth straight year, does not raise taxes, so tax payers five -- runaway government nothing," Astorino said.
Chair of the County Board of Legislators, Democrat Michael Kaplowitz, said tinkering with the plan is an art and not a science.
"The devil's in the details as they say. So we're going to go through the 6,000 lines and the $1.76 billion dollar budget as we always do," he said.
Seven of eight county unions are contributing to their health care plans. Astorino described the plan as a steady budget, and said the legislators know the numbers.
