Westchester County Executive Says He Won't Raise Property Taxes To Fill Budget Gap
WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Westchester's county executive says he'll do anything but raise property taxes in order to fill a budget deficit.
As WCBS 880's Jim Smith reported, when it comes to the county's budget only two things are certain: there's a $50 million gap and County Executive Rob Astorino says he won't raise taxes.
So that means everything else is on the table.
"We've got to look at some other ways of maybe raising some revenue, but also finding cuts. And that's what we're going to do," Astorino said.
The county could see potentially hundreds of layoffs or reductions in services, Smith reported.
"We're looking at every department and no department is sacrosanct that won't be touched," Astorino said.
The county executive added that the knee-jerk reaction of just raising taxes is not in his playbook.
