Westchester County Lawmakers Ban Indoor Use Of Electronic Cigarettes

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Vapers beware: there will be no more indoor use of electronic cigarettes in Westchester County.

Lawmakers approved legislation on Monday, which expands the county's smoking ban to include e-cigarettes and other vaping devices, according to the Journal News.

Legislator Catherine Borgia, who proposed the bill, claims manufacturers of electronic cigarettes have used marketing techniques similar to those used by tobacco companies years ago, and argues the companies are deliberately marketed toward young people.

The percentage of teens inhaling vapors created by heating liquid nicotine tripled between 2013 and 2014, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The New York State Legislature is considering a statewide ban on indoor e-cigarette use.
