Man Charged In West Village Burglary, Groping

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Police have made an arrest in last week's burglary and groping incident in the West Village.

A woman who lives on Hudson Street and West 10th Street woke up early Thursday morning to find a man in her apartment groping her, police said.

The suspect had gained access to her building through an open front door in the lobby before climbing up to the woman's second floor apartment via the fire escape, police said. The woman had left her window open.

Jeffrey Joseph, 35, of Staten Island faces burglary and sex abuse charges.

Last week, CBS2's Scott Rapoport talked with the 43-year-old IT project manager who was the victim of the assault.

"He touched me inappropriately," she said. "I was asleep. I woke up because he touched me."

Following the incident, police put up fliers in the area and urging residents to lock their windows.
