WCBS Newsradio 880 Wins National Murrow Award For Overall Excellence

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- WCBS Newsradio 880 has been honored with the 2015 National Murrow Award for Overall Excellence in the large market local radio category.

The winning entry included coverage of the East Harlem gas explosion, police protests and the murders of NYPD officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos.

The Radio Television Digital News Association has been honoring outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the annual Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. Murrow was a pioneer in broadcast news who spent his entire career at CBS.

"It's a thrill to be honored with a National Murrow from the RTDNA," said WCBS 880 News Director Tim Scheld. "The Overall Excellence Award is especially sweet because we share it with the entire news operation. Every single WCBS News staffer played a role in the winning coverage. I couldn't be prouder."

The winners will be recognized at the RTDNA Edward R. Murrow Awards Gala at Gotham Hall in New York on Oct. 12.
