Macy's Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month: Jencarlos Canela

Meet actor, singer, and songwriter Jencarlos Canela at Macy's on September 27. Macy's is celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month with an "in conversation" with the popular artist, where he'll discuss his sense of style, his career, as well as his cultural background. Spend $25 or more at the Impulse or Young Men's department, and you'll be able to grab a snap with him. RSVP here for this fun event and find out how you can score a copy of his latest single, "Pa Que Me Invitan." Event goes from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Rites of Passage
Javier Dzul celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with the premiere of Dzul Dance's Rites of Passage. This new creative work focuses on Pre-Hispanic Rites of passages and the importance of ritual as a transformative experience. Known for breaking the barriers of dance, this company's performance is no exception thanks to the incorporation of circus and aerial arts. Come see it for yourself. Performance starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $30.
El Barrio Latin Jazz Festival

Celebrate the first day of Hispanic Heritage Month at the El Barrio Latin Jazz Festival. Listen to Jazz Historian Joe Conzo Sr. kick off the festival on Thursday, September 15. He will speak on the beginnings of Latin musicians in jazz, the development of Latin jazz, and how the Latin music scene from Harlem made a global impact. You'll also get to listen to rare live recordings by some jazz greats, including Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, Mario Bauza, and more. Room28 Comedy: A Night at El Museo

Enjoy a night of comedy at El Museo Del Barrio. The Latino sketch group, Room 28, will present a showcase filled with their most popular live comedy sketches as well as a compilation of their videos. Look out for cameos from notable personalities, too. This group of diverse actors and comedians are committed to sharing the Latino experience through culturally relevant information as well as plenty of realness. Get your $20 ticket here. Doors open at 7 p.m. and show starts at 8 p.m.
The Hispanic Heritage Cultural Celebration: Bridging The Generation Gap

Head out to Port Jefferson for an inspiring brunch and scholarship fundraiser on Saturday, October 8. The National Association of Puerto Rican Hispanic Social Workers puts on this annual brunch to promote and preserve Hispanic culture for present and future generations. This year, keynote speaker Anamaria Flores will honor Carmen Garcia-Gordon (Social Worker of the Year), Osman Canales (Advocate of the Year), Hector Melgar (Humanitarian of the Year), Mount Sinai Comprehensive Health Program (Agency of the Year), and The Truth UTG (Hispanic Heritage Performance Arts Award.) Money raised from this event will go towards scholarships for five students pursuing their Masters degree in Social Work. Tickets are $80 for general admission, $60 for students. Learn more here.
