Water Main Break Prompts Boil Water Advisory For Jersey City And Hoboken
KEARNY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - Much of Jersey City was reporting water outages Tuesday afternoon after a water main break.
According to Suez Water, a contractor working near Howell Street and Duffield Avenue in Kearny ruptured the 36-inch line that supplies water to Hoboken and Jersey City.
Residents were advised to boil water until further notice.

Water tankers were dispatched to Christ Hospital in Jersey City, which activated its emergency plan.
Hoboken residents were also impacted.
Officials are sending potable water to local hospitals.

Suez Water NJ sent crews to fix the leak. The shutoff valve was under four feet of water, officials said.
Around 11:15 p.m., Suez Water reported that some residents were seeing pressure returning or their water restored.
"We expect most residents, including those who still have no water to have service back over night. Crew will not leave until repairs are complete," the company said in a statement.
Suez Water says water may be discolored due to naturally occurring minerals in the water mains and running cold water will help clear the line.
