Wantagh Schools Evacuated After Threat Found In Boy's Bathroom

WANTAGH, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police on Long Island are investigating a threatening message left in a boy's bathroom at Wantagh High School.

A Nassau County police spokesman said the high school and middle school were evacuated as a precaution. The buildings are adjacent.

"This morning, the district discovered a threatening message in the high school boy's bathroom. The police were immediately contacted and are currently on site conducting an investigation," Wantagh's superintendent of schools Maureen Goldberg said in a message posted on the district website.

Students have been posting pictures of the evacuation on Twitter.

Goldberg said high school students were moved to the Forest Lake Elementary School. Middle school students were sent to St. Francis Church.

Police say they received the call at about 9:26 a.m. Both the high school and middle school were thoroughly searched, and students were allowed to return to the buildings at 1:15 p.m., police said.
