Vigil held in Jersey City for mother found dead in wooded area in Bayonne

JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- A vigil was held Sunday night for a mother of two found dead who was found dead in Bayonne.

Her family came together, just one day after police made an arrest in the case.

Family and friends of 32-year-old Norelis Mendoza gathered in front of her mother's Jersey City home. That's where she was last seen alive, before being reported missing on Mother's Day.

On Saturday, police announced the arrest of Gregory Mallard. According to Mendoza's family, Mallard is the father of her two children.

On Sunday night, her brother addressed the community.

"If you're standing here, you're family. We've got two little girls that we have to take care of," the brother said. "All I ask for is for prayers and for guidance, and that whatever these two little girls need, that we've got them."

The Hudson County Prosecutors Office is calling Mendoza's killing a case of domestic violence.
