Verizon Worker Accused Of Cutting Cablevision Wires On Long Island
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police on Long Island have arrested a Verizon technician on charges he vandalized wires belonging to rival Cablevision.
Vincent Gargano of Setauket cut a Cablevision fiber optic cable wire and another Cablevision wire on Jan. 7, police said. The outage affected about 6,000 customers.
Gargano was arrested Tuesday and charged with criminal mischief and criminal trespassing, police said.
Verizon spokesman John Bonomo confirmed that Gargano was an employee. He said in a statement that Gargano's alleged actions are not consistent with how Verizon conducts business.
Both companies are cooperating with the investigation.
