Vandals Damage Statues, Paintings At Metropolitan Opera House

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Wednesday were searching for the vandals who hit the Metropolitan Opera House, defacing several statues and paintings.

The vandalism took place Wednesday morning at the opera house at Lincoln Center, on the Upper West Side.

"Early this morning, some administrative offices at the Metropolitan Opera house were vandalized with spray paint. There was little or no permanent damage," the Met said in a statement. "The New York City Police department is investigating. We have no further comment at this time."

Despite the Met's statement that nothing was permanently damaged, one of the paintings involved in the incident is said to be worth $50,000.

Police said the incident may be related to a labor dispute.
