Utah Man Pleads Guilty In Killing Of L.I. Equestrian
RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) - A Utah man has pleaded guilty to murder and other charges in the killing of a suburban New York equestrian and wounding of his partner.
A spokesman for Suffolk County prosecutors on eastern Long Island said Brett Knight pleaded guilty Wednesday in county court in Riverhead.
State Supreme Court Justice Richard Ambro said he would sentence Knight to 22 years to life in prison. Prosecutors wanted a 35-years-to-life sentence.
Knight, originally from Midvale, Utah, admitted to the September 2013 fatal shooting of Ross Reisner of Setauket. Reisner's partner, Kevin Murray, was wounded.
Prosecutors said the killing followed a dispute between Knight and the men. Knight had previously lived in the Setauket home, but was evicted. Knight also suspected the men told a former employer about a baseless wrongful termination lawsuit.
