Report: USWNT To Play England At Yankee Stadium
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- New York City is reportedly going to get another look at the World Cup champs.
But this time, the U.S. women's national soccer team will be on the pitch.
The USWNT -- which celebrated its triumph with a ticker-tape parade up the Canyon of Heroes earlier this month -- will have England on the schedule in November at Yankee Stadium, according to the New York Post.
"With the huge popularity of soccer in New York, and a chance to see the USA women's soccer team up close, this could be a huge event," a source told the newspaper.
The ballpark in the Bronx is home to MLS' NYCFC franchise and has played host to international soccer matches, including Liverpool-Man City last July.
The U.S. beat Japan on July 5 for the World Cup title. England lost in the semifinals.
"Some soccer fans felt that, if it hadn't been for that heartbreaking own goal, England would have been in the FIFA Women's World Cup Final against the United States," the Post's source said, "so you could say this is a chance to see the final that was never played."
