US Postal Service Food Drive Saturday
MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- U.S. Postal Service letter carriers are coming to your home Saturday in search for food.
It's the annual Stamp Out Hunger national food drive, and Island Harvest CEO Randi Shubin-Dresner is encouraging people to help feed the needy.
"That is why we are asking people on this Saturday, May 9, just to leave a can of food or a couple of cans of food at your mailbox," she told WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs. "Your letter carrier will do the rest."
It is the nation's largest food drive. Shubin-Dresner said helping the needy has never been so easy.
"It's the easiest way that we can teach other people about how to give back to our community," she said.
National Association of Letter Carriers President Walter Barton added, "Letter carriers, they don't just deliver the mail; they deliver comfort."
