Woman Dies After Being Struck By Vehicle On Upper East Side

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A woman was struck and killed by a vehicle on the Upper East Side Thursday evening.

The 68-year-old woman was struck near 78th Street and York Avenue, officials told CBS2. Police said a 2005 Honda Pilot had been headed north on York Avenue when it struck the woman, who was trying to cross York Avenue at the time.

"It sounded like, bam! And then, the guy, he told me someone hit the lady," said Gilberto Solano, who had been working in a nearby bodega.

Solano said two people tried to help the woman and asked if she was OK, but she did not respond. An ambulance came soon afterward, he said.

The driver remained at the scene, CBS2's Valerie Castro reported.

The woman was rushed to NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in an unspecified condition, the FDNY said. She was later pronounced dead, officials confirmed.

The woman was identified as Andrea Kremen of Fort Lee.

The NYPD Collision Investigation Squad was investigating late Thursday.
