Uber Driver Accused Of Exposing Self To Passenger On Long Island
GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- An Uber driver has been accused of exposing himself to one of his passengers on Long Island.
Police said 24-year-old Taylor Evans of Elmont picked up the woman at her home in Bethpage around 7:30 a.m. Monday to take her to work in Garden City.
As they were driving on Old Country Road, police said he undid his zipper, exposed himself and continued to do so until they arrived at the victim's place of work, according to police.
According to court papers, the victim said Evans asked her, "Let me know if you want to make a stop," but she replied, "Just take me to work."
"I didn't know what to do, I was shocked," the victim, named Stephanie, told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall. "I was very freaked out."
She was able to take photographs of Evans and his vehicle's license plate which helped authorities make the arrest.
In court papers, Evans said he was adjusting himself and forgot to zip up his pants, but Stephanie said she doesn't buy it.
"No, I don't think you adjust that when you're working," the victim said.
The victim takes Uber all the time because she doesn't have a car, but said after this experience she'll never use the service again.
"You're not really safe, you don't know what you're getting into," the victim said.
Evans is scheduled to be arraigned on a public lewdness charge Tuesday.
