U.S. Olympian Holcomb Fires Back At Fallon Over 'Old Hot Wing' Joke
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Steven Holcomb is not one to be trifled with -- as Jimmy Fallon found out on Tuesday.
The U.S. Olympian took issue with the new Tonight Show host's attack during his debut on Monday night.
Fallon, who replaced longtime host Jay Leno, said during his Olympics segment that Holcomb was "most likely to find an old hot wing in his pocket," a clear shot at the bobsled pilot's large frame.
Well, Holcomb, who helped the U.S. end a 62-year drought in the two-man bobsled with a bronze medal in Sochi on Monday and is also the reigning Olympic champion in the four-man competition, would have none of it, going on the "Dan Patrick Show" with some choice words of his own for the comic.
"I actually did offer Jimmy a ride [in the bobsled] at the beginning of the season and he declined," Holcomb said on the "Dan Patrick Show" on Tuesday. "He said he was scared."
Holcomb is a former Alpine skier and member of the Army National Guard. He has battled depression and now has to deal with a left calf injury heading into the four-man heats, which begin Saturday.
"It is what it is, he tried to take a jab at me and that's fine," Holcomb said. "It happens. We'll work something out."
