Two killed on Staten Island Expressway as car bursts into flames after crashing into lane barrier
NEW YORK -- Eastbound lanes on the Staten Island Expressway reopened Monday morning after two people were killed in a fiery crash overnight.
Police said a 22-year-old woman driving a Chevy Corvette lost control, struck a lane barrier and crashed near Hylan Boulevard just after 11 p.m. Sunday.
The Corvette overturned and struck a Ford pickup truck before it caught fire, police said.
The driver and her passenger, also a 22-year-old woman, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their names were not immediately released.
No one in the pickup truck was hurt, police said.
