Tri-State Area Officials React After Joe Biden, Kamala Harris Projected To Win Election
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Local officials across the Tri-State Area reacted on social media after Joe Biden was projected to become the 46th president of the United States.
CBS News and other media outlets made the projection around 11:30 a.m. Saturday, when Biden was projected to win Pennsylvania and enough electoral college votes to clinch the presidency.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio wrote, "The people have spoken," and congratulated Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, the first woman to hold the office.

Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand also offered congratulations to President-elect Biden and Harris.

Schumer also discussed the win in Manhattan, telling a crowd there's now "hope in America."
"The long, dark night in America is over, and a new dawn is coming," he said. "Joe Biden won the election fair and square, but now the hard work begins. We all must roll up our sleeves and help America."
Even with Biden's victory over President Donald Trump, control over the Senate likely won't be decided until a January runoff in Georgia's two Senate races.
If Democrats win both, Schumer would be in line to become Majority Leader.
