Tri-State Area Commuters Face Schedule Changes, Delays On Mass Transit

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Commuters using mass transit can expect delays and schedule changes after up to 13 inches of snow fell on the New York metropolitan area.

NYC SUBWAY & BUSES:

Subway service is near normal with some weather-related delays and service changes.

Bus service will run at close to 90 percent of capacity with weather-related delays due to road conditions across the five boroughs and some curtailments and detours on a route-by-route basis. Almost three quarters of local buses are running with tire chains.

LONG ISLAND RAIL ROAD

The Long Island Rail Road is running on a weekend schedule. There will be no train service on the West Hempstead line and also on the Greenport lines east of Ronkonkoma. Bus service will be provided on those lines.

The LIRR will add eight trains for the evening rush hour and service will be restored to the normal weekday schedule starting at midnight.

Details on the extra trains are as follows:

Ronkonkoma Branch

An extra train will depart Penn Station at 3:32 p.m., stopping at Woodside, Jamaica, New Hyde Park, Mineola, Westbury, Hicksville, Bethpage, Farmingdale, and then all stops to Ronkonkoma.

Babylon Branch

Four extra trains will depart Penn Station, at 3:40, 4:40, 5:40 and 6:09 p.m. These four trains will stop at Jamaica and Rockville Centre, and then make all stops to Babylon.

Port Jefferson Branch

Two extra Huntington-bound trains will depart Penn Station, at 5:07 p.m. and 6:06 p.m.  These two trains will stop at Woodside, Jamaica, New Hyde Park, and then make all stops to Huntington.

Port Washington Branch

An extra Great Neck-bound train will depart Penn Station at 5:03 p.m. stopping at Woodside and then making all local stops to Great Neck.

Fares will be off-peak on Wednesday. Lower station fares are being charged onboard trains.

METRO-NORTH RAILROAD:

Metro-North will operate a regular weekday schedule on the Hudson, Harlem and New Haven Lines. Delays and train combinations are likely.

The decisions to cancel or combine trains will be based upon the condition of our track and power systems, the number of train cars available, and the location and availability of our crews, the railroad said.

NJ TRANSIT:

NJ TRANSIT  will operate on an enhanced weekend schedule on all rail lines except the Atlantic City Rail Line, which will operate a regular weekday schedule.

NJ TRANSIT buses and light rail lines will operate on a regular weekday schedule. Customers should expect delays, particularly during the morning commute, the agency said.

Access Link service will be suspended statewide Wednesday. Full service will resume on Thursday.

NJ TRANSIT is offering full, systemwide cross-honoring Wednesday.

BEE-LINE BUS:

Bee-Line buses and Paratransit vehicles are running on or close to schedule.

These routes are traveling on the snow detours:

Rt. 2 North/South - Avoiding Park Ave. &  Palisade Ave due to snow & ice - Detour using Palisade Ave, Ashburton Ave, Broadway to Roberts.
Rt. 6U-no service in the Uniontown area of Hastings.  Bus will travel on Broadway instead.
Rts. 8 & 32-no service to Nodine Hill in Yonkers.
Rt. 9 Loop updated - Avoiding Park Ave, Walsh Rd, Vineyard, Father Finian, Ridge Ave & Lake Ave due to snow & ice - Detour using Hudson St, Broadway, Palisade Ave, Ashburton, Broadway to Roberts Ave.
Rt. 30- no service on Stone Ave. and Fortfield Ave. in Yonkers. Bus will use Lockwood Ave. and Mile Square Rd. instead.
Rt. 63 North/South - Avoiding Crossways at Weaver St. due to snow & ice - Detour using Heathcote Rd to Palmer Ave.

AMTRAK:

Amtrak is operating on a modified schedule on the Northeast Corridor between Washington and Boston, the Keystone Service (New York-Harrisburg, Pa.) and the Empire Line between New York City and Albany.

Fewer Acela Express and Northeast Regional service will operate between Boston and Washington. Passengers booked on affected trains will be notified by Amtrak customer service, according to the rail agency.

Ticketholders opting not to travel will be issued a refund of a voucher for future travel, Amtrak said.
