Trespassing Trial Gets Underway For Confessed Killer Robert Durst
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A trespassing trial began Wednesday for Robert Durst, a confessed killer and the black sheep of a prominent New York real estate family.
Durst, 74, is accused of walking up the steps of a brownstone owned by his brother on West 43rd Street, WCBS 880's Irene Cornell reported.
The Durst family owns the whole block, along with 10 Manhattan skyscrapers. Thirteen relatives have an order of protection against Durst.
Durst was suspected but never charged in the disapperance of his wife in 1982 and the murder of a friend in Los Angeles.
He later went on the the lam disguised as a woman living in Texas. He confessed to killing and dismembering his elderly neighbor in 2001, but he convinced a jury he killed the man in self-defense and was convicted on lesser charges.
Last month, HBO announced it will run a six-part documentary about Durst. "The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst" premieres in February.
