Missing Teaneck Man, Timothy Hamlett, Found Dead In Hudson River

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The body of a man missing since December was found in the Hudson River last week, police said Monday.

Timothy Hamlett, 20 at the time, left the Teaneck home of his family in Teaneck, New Jersey the day after Christmas last year. He was reported by his parents when he did not return home, and they pinged his cell phone to Washington Heights in Upper Manhattan.

Local reports said police tracked his phone to a Washington Heights home where a group of children said they found his phone and wallet.

Hamlett had gone through a change in behavior due to an overuse of athletic supplements, according to his mother as well as a neurologist.

He had told his parents he was going to see a friend who lived in Teaneck before he left his home, according to police.

This past Friday, a body was recovered from the Hudson River offshore from Upper Manhattan. An autopsy on Saturday confirmed that the body was Hamlett's, Teaneck police said.

An autopsy determined that Hamlett had drowned, and the manner of death was a suicide, according to the New York City Medical Examiner's office.
