7 NYC Ticker-Tape Parades Not Honoring Local Teams

The U.S. women's national soccer team will be honored with a parade on Friday for its World Cup victory. Believe it or not, there have been quite a few ticker-tape parades in the Big Apple for non-New York sports teams and figures. Here are seven previous examples:
1. August 6, 1924
A celebration of the Summer and Winter Olympic athletes competing for the United States saw them marching down the Canyon of Heroes.

Bobby Jones wins the British Amateur and British Open golf tournaments, and is rewarded with a parade. Unlike most individual athletes who've been honored in such a manner, he is from Atlanta, not New York.

5. July 7, 1952
The U.S. Olympic team is sent off to the Summer Games in Helsinki in proper fashion, with a parade.
6. August 15, 1984
U.S. Summer Olympic medalists from the Los Angeles Games march down the Canyon of Heroes.
7. October 17, 1998
Sammy Sosa is recognized for hitting 66 home runs (second to Mark McGwire's 70 homers) and assisting with hurricane relief efforts in the Dominican Republic.
