NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- Thousands of yogis from all over the world welcomed the Summer Solstice with their open arms to the sky on Saturday.
Some chataranga poses followed by downward dogs allowed Joey from Yorktown to see Times Square in a different light, WCBS 880's Monica Miller reported.
"It was fun. It was really relaxing when they had us laying down in different poses," Joey from Yorktown, said.
Courtney was in town from Jamaica.
"There is a good group of people. You can have fun and relax," she said.
The Times Square Alliance was holding eight free, mind over madness classes. Its President, Tim Tompkins, led the first class.
"So it really is this metaphor for the larger challenges of our lives. How do we stay present, how do we stay focused with all the distractions," he said.
Tompkins told 1010 WINS reporter Roger Stern that the event allowed participants to move into a different state of mind even amid the business of Times Square.
"I am struck at how it actually is possible in the midst of all this busyness to get yourself into a different state of mind," he said.
