The Goal For U.S. Soccer Fans: Finding Way To Watch World Cup Match During Work Day
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The good news is the United States is still in the running for the World Cup.
The bad news is the Americans, looking to advance to the next round, face Germany at noon Thursday -- smack in the middle of the work day.
Noel Howard was one of the few people who willingly admitted to CBS 2's Hazel Sanchez he'll do whatever it takes to see the American team take the field.
"There's the Internet at work," he said.
"There's always long lunches," Howard added. "I mean, like do a half-day, or just (fake coughing), you know the flu is going around."
Medi Wine Bar on Ninth Avenue is among several venues in Hell's Kitchen gearing up for the match. Owner Dorian Gashi had a full house of fans when the U.S. tied with Portugal on Sunday. But he's not sure what to expect during the work week.
"Difficult for people who work 9 to 5 to get out and enjoy the game," Gashi said.
Edward Cox, of Washington Heights, said he plans to slip out during lunch to catch the match.
"I will go to one of the bars and sit and see it," he said.
For Nino Manca, a youth soccer coach, watching the World Cup is part of his job.
"I am working tomorrow," he said. "But I will be taking my soccer kids to watch the USA game."
For others, such as Stacia Anderson's husband, whose job keeps him on the road, watching the game will be more challenging.
"Knowing how serious they are, trust me, he'll find a way," she said. "Believe me, he'll find a way."
