Thanksgiving Breakfast Honors Families Of Fallen First Responders

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The families of New York-area first responders killed in the line of duty were honored at a Thanksgiving breakfast.

More than 1,300 children and other family members took part in the free breakfast Thursday at Bryant Park.

It was timed to the start of the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, WCBS 880's Monica Miller reported.

"When my dad first died, I thought I was alone, but apparently I'm not," said Amanda, who lost her father, Police Officer William Rivera, 10 years ago.

Police Commissioner Bill Bratton, Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro and former Mayor Rudy Giuliani were among those who stopped by to express their gratitude.

"Unfortunately, this city certainly has experienced too many of those losses," Bratton told Miller.

The annual event was hosted by The National Law Enforcement and Firefighters Children's Foundation.
