Terry Collins Leaves Florida For Michigan In Wake Of Father's Death
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Terry Collins' father, Loren "Bud" Collins, passed away at age 95 on Tuesday night.
The Mets' manager left New York's spring training home in Port St. Lucie, Fla., on Wednesday afternoon to return to his native Michigan.
It's unknown when the skipper will return to camp, according to the New York Daily News.
The newspaper reports that the elder Collins was a manager for Dow Chemical for many years and lived in Midland, Mich., where Terry was born.
According to the New York Daily News, Loren and Terry had a very close relationship, and the manager spent much of the offseason with his ailing dad.
The newspaper reports that general manager Sandy Alderson will step in for Collins on Friday for the annual start-of-camp press conference.
Mets pitchers and catchers will report to camp on Thursday. The first workout is scheduled for Saturday and position players will report on Tuesday.
Collins is entering his fifth season as Mets manager.
