Tenant Arrested In Brooklyn Landlord's Murder

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An arrest has been made in connection with the murder of a Brooklyn landlord.

The body of 57-year-old Mahuddin Mahmud was found Tuesday in the basement office of a building he owned on McDonald Avenue in Kensington.

His throat was slashed and his face was burned, police said.

Mahmud's brother said the office safe was open and up to $20,000 was gone.

Rasel Siddiquee, 27, who lives in the building's basement apartment, was arrested Wednesday morning at Kennedy Airport, police said. He was trying to leave the country, police told CBS 2.

Siddiquee is charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Mahmud was the father of two boys, ages 4 and 9.
