Technology, Social Media To Play Large Role In This Year's NYC Marathon
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Technology and social media are playing a big role in the New York City Marathon this year.
The marathon's mobile app for iPhone or Android allows spectators to follow up to 10 runners, according to the race's director of digital media, Rob Smy,
"It's just an excitement-generating thing. Just seeing how fast your friend or family member is running. Tracking a pro, tracking a celeb," he told WCBS 880's Marla Diamond.
Large screens will be placed at the start and finish in Brooklyn and on First Avenue.
"The jumbotrons themselves are going to look a lot better this year. We're having high definition screens which will be super bright," Smy said.
Spectators can use #TCSNYCMarathon to get their tweet or Instagram on one of the screens.
