Police Investigate Suspicious Death Of Woman In Brooklyn
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Police are investigating the suspicious death of a woman in East Flatbush, Brooklyn.
Officers conducted a wellness check around 6:45 a.m. Saturday at her apartment building on Lenox Road near Nostrand Avenue.
Sources told CBS2 the 58-year-old victim, identified as Kyimar Thein, was found bound in her closet. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Friends told CBS2's Lisa Rozner Thein loved her job working overnights at nearby SUNY Downstate Medical Center. So when she didn't show up the last few days, they were concerned.
"Her sister was trying to contact her for several days," said neighbor Rodney White. "She came up and she was able to contact I think the landlord, and they got a locksmith to open the door and go inside and found a very sad situation."
"She didn't deserve it, she didn't deserve it," he added. "We're just stunned."
"Someone that keeps to herself, very friendly, will say hi," neighbor Noreen Peters said.
"Nothing suspicious happens in this building," said neighbor Judy Greaves.
Two coworkers who did not want to go on camera told Rozner Thein did sublet to colleagues sometimes and may have had issues with a younger employee who was staying with her and that employee's boyfriend. The NYPD, however, would not confirm that information.
"It's very sad that this situation happened. We're stunned, the whole neighborhood is stunned. She's very peaceful and a good woman," White said.
The medical examiner will determine her cause of death.
