Suspect Sought In Brooklyn Shooting Of Bodega Employee

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police have released surveillance video of a suspect wanted in the shooting of a bodega employee in Brooklyn.

The incident took place at 427 Central Avenue near Madison Avenue in Bushwick at around 6:45 a.m Thursday.

The victim, 52-year-old Swadh Maged from Staten Island, was shot four times in the chest and arm. He was rushed to Kings County Hospital, where he died a short time later.

The surveillance video shows the suspect calmly walking into the store with a gun in a plastic bag. He then walks to counter, raises the gun and fires, police said.

Investigators think Maged, a husband and father of 13 children, may have been targeted.

The suspect was wearing a grey and yellow jacket and got away in a light-colored van, police said.

The Bodega Association issued a statement expressing outrage over the shooting.

"Something must be done. Innocent people are losing their lives and we are accepting it as being normal thing," said Fernando Mateo, spokesman for the Bodega Association. "We feel for the victim and his family and pray for his soul."

It's not clear why Maged may have been targeted.

"He work hard for his family. This is what I can say about him," the victim's cousin Irbrahim Alnamer said. "He have no problem with anybody."
