Suspect In Brutal Millburn Home Invasion Caught On Nanny Cam Pleads Not Guilty

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - The suspect allegedly caught on nanny cam beating a mom in Millburn, N.J. has pleaded not guilty.

Shawn Custis, 43, appeared before a judge at his arraignment in Newark on Tuesday morning.

According to prosecutors, Custis is the man seen on video bursting into the home and rushing at the woman, punching and kicking her repeatedly and throwing her down the stairs.

Authorities said Custis broke into the Millburn home on June 21, 2013 and beat a mother of two for nearly 10 minutes before taking off with some jewelry, including the woman's wedding ring.

The victim's 18-month-old child was sleeping upstairs on the second floor at the time of the attack. The suspect could be seen on the tape going upstairs to get something.

A grand jury indicted Custis on several charges, including attempted murder.

Custis has 12 other prior convictions.

He is being held on $750,000 bail.
