Suspect Charged In Death Of Brooklyn Woman Whose Dismembered Body Was Found On L.I.

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A woman has been arrested and charged in the death of a Brooklyn woman, whose partially dismembered body was found on Long Island earlier this month.

Leah Cuevas, 42, of Brooklyn, was charged with second-degree murder by Suffolk County authorities in the death of Chinelle Thompson Browne, also of Brooklyn, according to a news release issued early Thursday.

Police confirmed that that a partially dismembered body found in Bay Shore was that of Browne.
The 27-year-old's family said she was last seen July 5.

Shortly after the Bay Shore discovery, severed arms were found at two other nearby homes in Hempstead a day apart. Later, a human head was found in front of a row of bushes outside a home in Hempstead.

The Suffolk County release did not mention the Hempstead discoveries.

Neighbors told CBS 2's Janelle Burrell earlier this month that Browne had just gotten into a fight with her landlord before she went missing.

Cuevas was set to be arraigned at Suffolk County First District Court in Central Islip on Thursday. Her relationship, if any, to Browne was not specified.
